Who I Am
My name is Danielle and I am a work-at-home Mama to two little guys.
I daydream during breakfast, sketch while the kids play, carve as they make mischief and print after bedtime.
The designs are inspired by my children's simple joys; I'm driven to create things they will love. My prints are simple and bold, to capture the attention and imagination of young ones, but not appall the sensibilities of adults.
Sometimes I need to escape the kids stuff. When I do, I find myself inspired by the dream of a simpler life and the belief that useful things can be beautiful too.
How I Work
Each design starts as inspiration, which can come from just about anywhere. Often I'm inspired by my children, they are like tiny idea factories. Once I'm inspired, I sit down with a pencil and sketchbook to get the idea onto paper.
Only a handful of sketches move beyond my sketchbook. If they do, I transfer the design to linoleum and start carving.
Once the linocut is done, it's time for my favorite part. The first test print. Each linocut block has its own personality, and it isn't fully realized until that first print is pulled.
If I"m happy with the test print, I'll move the design into production - printing onto just about everything - paper, hand-dyed shirts, totes and linens. I'm happiest when my prints can be both beautiful and functional. I want people to see and use them everyday.
